It has become evident that the term Business Coaching is being confused. Some professionals are promoting themselves, as Business Coaches, but are instead are actually by definition Neuro-Linguistic Programmers (NLP), Personal Coaches or Executive Coaches. Business Coaching by definition is a collaborative, solutions and results oriented systematic process, in which the coach assists the enhancement of business and work performance, with self-directed learning and personal growth of individuals being a side effect. In essence, Business Coaching is assisting with businesses to move them into the right or better direction to achieve greater results professionally, but with the benefit of personal achievement. Business Coaching has had proven business success, due to the strategic functions and goals that are set to achieve. Whereas, personal, executive coaching and NLP focus on purely personal development and achievements, and not necessarily even including the business at all.

When looking for a Business Coach you have to ask yourself ‘am I looking for someone to coach me personally?’ or ‘am I looking for someone to direct my business to achieve greater goals to allow my personal life to improve?’

If the answer is the latter, then contact Aaron Day on email: aaron@the3rdgear.com to help your business. The3rdGear Business Engineering model has been developed over more than a decade, with scientific management data and principles adapted from Asia/Pacific’s leading business management school and further cultivated by the advice of Australia’s top industry professionals in Management Consulting, Human Resources, Marketing, Finance and Strategic Planning. To receive the most effective, simplest, Business Coaching solutions in Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast and surrounding areas call 1300 794 838 for more information.

Today we’re winning similar amounts of work to what we were seeing in the boom days, yet we’re more profitable, and all this in the middle of a recession!

There are two pains that all of us will feel in life, one is the pain of discipline, the other is the pain of regret. One is a much lesser pain than the other but far too many people choose the immediate gratification of the easy road!

Apologies for beginning my blog on such a ‘painful’ topic (for some)! The act and art of discipline however will be the maketh or breaketh of your business and personal dreams. Combine the application of discipline with good planning, goal-setting and a large dose of passion and watch your wildest dreams materialise.

The unfavourable aspect of discipline is pain, however in my eyes, the rewards you get from applying it far outweigh the initial discomfort (as per my quote in the opening paragraph). In other words, choose your pain!

For some the road toward discipline doesn’t seem clear and obvious and it is the frequency that I observe this in the business world which brings me to write about it. I encounter business owners from day-to-day with varying levels of discipline and have observed that there is a correlation to those levels relating to the success of their business.

The frustration of this correlation has lead me to develop my own four basic steps to discipline success!

One: Take small steps, but always steps moving toward your goals.

Map out the goals you want to achieve in the medium and long-term and break these down to short-term activities that will help you get there. Starting “right now!”.

Discipline gains momentum and the results from even a small application of it are addictive, so be warned!

Two: Structure. This is the moment where you structure the activities you need to undertake to achieve your goals into your day-to-day, along with other commitments.

Choose your highest hours of productivity and do the highest yield activities during these hours. If possible, outsource low-yield activities and focus on applying your genius in the areas it is best captured.

Remember the golden rule to adhere to: “If you want something done in a hurry, ask the busiest person you know!”. Be that busy, efficient person. You can do it!

Three: Education and Accountability. At the3rdgear, we’re big on continuous improvement; it is part of the art of success.

If you feel over-whelmed by your goals or just need further inspiration, tap into your resources; consultants / coaches (wink wink), net-working groups, find a mentor, read relevant books or attend evening classes.

Either way, you can and will draw knowledge and inspiration from those resources, thereby moving you faster (and with greater ease) toward your goals. A healthy dose of accountability you’ll get from 3rd parties sure helps too!

Four: Do it! This is where the real discipline is called upon. If you are educated, organised and efficient, I promise you, the reward you get from applying yourself will be far greater than the immediate pain of motivating yourself!

To conclude this post, I will share with you a quote from one of my favourite personal-development authors, Dr Scott M Peck:

“When we teach ourselves and our children discipline, we are teaching them and ourselves how to suffer and also how to grow”.
